When trying to decide whether or not to book your first sunless tanning session, many people have a variety of questions. Whether you have tanned in a tanning bed before, or are completely new to the tanning game, there may be inquiries you need answered in order to make your first sunless tanning session as enjoyable as possible.
Is sunless tanning safe?
Yes. The solution we use at Bronze Tan has an active ingredient called dihydroxyacetone, or DHA, that is approved by the FDA. This active ingredient is a non-toxic derivative of sugar cane and penetrates only the top layer of the skin. The solution is also vegan-friendly as well as paraben, gluten, and nut allergen-free.
When do you recommend getting a sunless tan and how often am I permitted to?
1-2 days before a special event is recommended to show off the best stage of color. To maintain lustrous skin year round, visit Bronze Tan once a week for a new application.
How long does the tan last?
Depending on your showering habits, beauty product usage, frequency of rigorous exercise, and your skin’s natural exfoliation rate, an airbrush tan can last from 7-10 days and a spray booth tan can last from 5-7 days. In order to lengthen the life of your tan, avoid overly-hot showers, baths, and hot tubs. Pat skin dry and use a gentle moisturizer twice daily.
What should I avoid after my appointment?
Within the first six hours of application, avoid water and other liquids, skin-on-skin contact, and excessive rubbing on the skin. Avoid exercise for the first 10-12 hours as well, since the friction and amount of sweat involved may cause your tan to fade quickly and unevenly. During your first post-tan shower avoid using soap. You will notice some tea-colored residue rinsing off of your skin which is normal and does not compromise the integrity of your new tan.
